Silver from 1814

From 1814 onwards, the Dutch silver system underwent a thorough reform. Assay offices were established, and every piece of silver was henceforth centrally assayed with a fineness mark (800, 835, or 925/1000), a Minerva head, a date letter, and a maker's mark, thus guaranteeing its origin and quality.

The 19th century brought a rich succession of styles: the clean lines of the Empire, the domestic elegance of Biedermeier, and the ornamental opulence of Romanticism.
