Are you looking for a refined and rare piece of Dutch silverware?
This beautiful antique silver salt spoon (or spice spoon) is a masterful example of 19th-century silversmithing from Rotterdam. Crafted by the renowned silversmith Caspar Frederik Kellenbach, this is a subtle eye-catcher for the connoisseur.
Refined design in neo-rococo style
This salt spoon excels in elegance and detailed finish:
  • The bowl: Beautifully crafted in a unique, organic corrugated shell shape, ideal for stylishly serving salt or fine spices.
  • The handle: Richly decorated with refined hand-engraving of graceful rocailles, scrolls, and leaf motifs in the characteristic neo-rococo style of around 1850.
The hallmarks on the back of the handle are of exceptional quality and struck razor-sharp (see macro photos):
  • Maker's mark: K above an arch in a square – Caspar Frederik Kellenbach (Rotterdam, active from approx. 1845/1861).
  • Date letter: V (for the year 1855).
  • Fineness mark: Walking lion with a '2' (Second standard silver, .833).
  • Assay office mark: Minerva head with the letter D in the helmet (Assay office Rotterdam).
  • Dimensions: Length 9.8 cm (98 mm).
  • Weight: 6.3 grams.

The spoon is in excellent, completely original condition. The engravings are still sharp, the silver has a beautiful shine, and the hallmarks are among the clearest you will encounter. A perfect and functional addition to an antique table service or a brilliant collector's item.
