Silver Zeeuws Paeremes, Middelburg, 19th century

Large Zeeland Paeremes with allegorical representation on the handle and a stylized dog as a sign of loyalty. The larger the knife, the greater the status of a bearer. Well, this carrier had status. The knife has a length of almost 34 cm (!) and weighs: 181 grams.

The blade was supplied by F. Herder from Solingen (Germany). The silver handle is marked with the master mark CM70 from C. Mark (or Murk) from Middelburg. This silversmith worked from 1841 to 1856.

Only the handle measures 15 cm.

The leather case also comes from F. Herder and is so inspected. Original with the knife.
