An elegant and characterful piece of 19th-century Dutch silverware: this exclusive antique silver fork from the year 1867. This refined fork was crafted by the renowned Schoonhoven master silversmith Willem Kooiman.
Willem Kooiman was an active and respected goldsmith and silversmith in Schoonhoven between 1856 and 1883. During this period, Schoonhoven was considered the absolute center for fine Dutch functional silver. Kooiman distinguished himself through his sleek and balanced designs, translating fashionable Biedermeier styles into solid, everyday tableware. His maker’s mark with the initials above the registration number 122 guarantees heavy-quality silver and an impeccable, artisanal finish.

The fork is in fantastic, lustrous condition and serves as a beautiful example of the clean, symmetrical Biedermeier style of the 1860s.
The fork immediately catches the eye with its tasteful and subtle hand engraving on the wide, ergonomically shaped handle. The stem is adorned with an elegant, geometric play of lines and a stylized cloverleaf or cartouche motif, finished with a fine beaded border engraving along the inner contours. Thanks to the heavier silver weight of 17.1 grams relative to its compact length, the fork feels wonderfully solid in the hand. This object is ideal for use as a luxury cake fork, pastry fork, or as part of an exclusive dessert set.
The reverse of the handle shows an exceptionally clear and crisp row of four deeply struck Dutch silver hallmarks (as can be beautifully seen in the macro photo):
  • The maker's mark WK over 122 in a square (Willem Kooiman)
  • The Gothic date letter H for the year 1867
  • The fineness mark, the Walking Lion with the 2 (for 2nd grade silver, .833)
  • The Minerva head with the letter M (assay office of Schoonhoven)
