This beautiful antique silver tea caddy spoon stands out with its elegantly shaped, deep bowl and subtly scalloped edges. Both the base of the bowl and the handle feature very fine, artisanal engraving with classic Biedermeier and floral motifs. The object was forged in Schoonhoven in 1876 and is in excellent condition.

The maker of this tea caddy spoon is the Schoonhoven goldsmith and silversmith Pieter van Geelen Ezijn (Ezn.). He was active in the famous silver city of Schoonhoven in the mid and second half of the 19th century. This object dates from 1876 and reflects the high quality and eye for detail for which Schoonhoven's small silverware is renowned.

The spoon is clearly and completely hallmarked with the official Dutch marks:
  • Maker's mark: PG21 (Pieter van Geelen Ezn, Schoonhoven)
  • Fineness: Second grade lion (833/1000 silver)
  • Office mark: Minerva head with the letter M for Schoonhoven
  • Year letter: r for the year 1876
