This beautiful antique silver tea caddy spoon (or tea scoop) stands out with its brilliant shell motif at the base of the bowl and the finely chased details on the stem and handle. The spoon was crafted in Amsterdam in 1841 and is in excellent condition.

The maker of the tea scoop is the Amsterdam gold- and silversmith Johannes van der Velden (active from 1833 to 1852). He was known for his high-quality small scooping implements. With its graceful forms, this object is a magnificent example of Amsterdam craftsmanship from the early Biedermeier period.

The tea caddy spoon is fully hallmarked with the official Dutch hallmarks:
  • Maker's Mark: Lying torch above JV in a square (J. van der Velden, Amsterdam)
  • Fineness: Second standard lion (833/1000 silver)
  • Office Mark: Minerva head with the letter A for Amsterdam
  • Year Letter: G for the year 1841
