This antique silver tea scoop was made during the heyday of the most renowned Dutch silver dynasty.
The item was crafted in 1868 and is in authentic condition. As shown in the images, the scoop has a beautifully wide and flat bowl with an elegantly scalloped, wavy edge. The strikingly shaped handle is richly adorned with a refined, handmade rhombus-shaped engraving and ornate scrolls, perfectly matching the romantic Dutch Biedermeier style. Its compact size of 84 mm makes this a rare and beloved collector's item, originally intended for scooping loose tea leaves from a luxurious tea caddy.

This tea scoop was forged in the legendary silver factory of J.M. van Kempen in Voorschoten. Pieces from this specific period (1858-1924) excel in technical perfection and refined aesthetics. This particular example also bears a rare export/import mark alongside the fineness mark, giving the object an extra fascinating historical layer for the true connoisseur.

For the discerning collector, the quality and readability of the silver hallmarks are crucial. On the detailed image, the four official historical Dutch assay marks can be clearly identified from left to right:
  • Maker's mark: Reclining crescent moon with lateral points above VK in a square, the official and sought-after factory mark of the royal firm J.M. van Kempen & Zonen from Voorschoten.
  • Lion Rampant (2): The fineness mark in a hexagon for 2nd grade Dutch silver (.833). This mark is unusually connected here with the specific export or import mark (the oval mark directly to its right).
