This beautiful antique silver tea caddy spoon stands out with its magnificent, detailed floral engravings on the handle and its elegantly curved bowl. The spoon was crafted in Amsterdam in 1850 and is in excellent condition.

The maker of this tea caddy spoon is the Amsterdam silversmith Barend Christiaan Verkerk (active in the mid-19th century). His work is known for its graceful engravings and the transition from the austere Biedermeier style to the more exuberant neo-styles. This object is a beautiful, tangible example of Amsterdam craftsmanship from the notable year 1850.

The tea caddy spoon is clearly and completely hallmarked with the official Dutch marks:
  • Maker's Mark: 30 above B C V in a square (B.C. Verkerk, Amsterdam)
  • Fineness: Second standard lion (833/1000 silver)
  • Assay Office Mark: Minerva head with the letter A for Amsterdam
  • Year Letter: Q for the year 1850
