Are you looking for an extremely rare, historic piece of silverware with a unique Frisian origin?
This antique silver tea caddy spoon is a magnificent example of high-quality 19th-century Frisian silver artistry and makes a valuable addition to your collection.
The object was handcrafted in Workum in the Biedermeier year 1876 and is in excellent, authentic condition. As beautifully shown in the photo, the spoon has an elegantly shaped, wide bowl with flowing, wavy contours. Both the bowl and the beautifully curved, ergonomic handle are richly decorated with an extremely delicate, handmade engraving of detailed flowers, leaf tendrils, and graceful scrolls.
This refined decor masterfully reflects the romantic Dutch Biedermeier style. Thanks to its compact size of 100 mm, it is a beloved collector's item, originally intended for stylishly scooping precious loose tea leaves from a tea caddy.
This tea caddy spoon was forged by the renowned Frisian master silversmith Willem Reinders Kuipers, who was active in Workum between 1876 and 1891. Frisian silverwork from this period is relatively scarce due to small-scale, regional production. Pieces by Kuipers are known for their solid quality and razor-sharp, deep engravings, which makes this tea caddy spoon a highly sought-after and value-retaining historical collector's item.

The tea caddy spoon is clearly and fully marked with the official historical Dutch hallmark stamps:
  • Lion Passant (2): The legal national mark for 2nd grade Dutch silver (.833).
  • Minerva Head: The office mark of the assay office (the office letter is illegible due to age, but historically directly linked to the assaying of this Frisian silver).
  • Maker's Mark W K 227 in a square: The officially registered maker's mark of Willem Reinders Kuipers.
  • Year Letter r: Guarantees the exact production year 1876.
