Silver tea caddy with shell and acanthus leaf motifs, made by silversmith Andries Akersloot (Citroen 133) from Haarlem. He was active from 1718 to 1758.

During his working life, this silversmith mainly focused on making tea and sugar caddies, teapots, brandy bowls and salt cellars.

Andries Akersloot was successively a councillor, inspector, dean and former dean in Haarlem in the period from 1721 to 1737. In 1742 he was the second highest assessed silversmith in Haarlem for an amount of 1200 guilders.

Hallmarked with master hallmark acorn, city hallmark Haarlem (sword), provincial lion as hallmark and date letter F for 1740.

This tea caddy with gilded interior is very beautifully embossed with baroque and Louis XIV ornaments. The Frans Hals Museum has several objects from Haarlem, from the same period and in the same characteristic style.

In good condition.

Weight: 166.3 grams. Dimensions: 11.5 x 8.5 x 8 cm.
