Silver purse bracket with skirt hook, H. van der Heyden, Leeuwarden
Frisian silver buckle bag from the end of the 18th century century or the beginning of the 19th century. The silver bracket was made by the silversmith Hendrik van der Heyden from Leeuwarden (Voet B 160). He worked from 1797 to 1811 in Leeuwarden. Not much silver from his hand has been handed down. He died on 14 September 1813. The bag hook was made by the silversmith Jacob Petrus Greidanus from Heerenveen. (Voet 468) Born in 1779 and died in 1810.
The bracket is provided with beautiful chased work. A number of episodes from the New Testament are depicted here, namely the washing of Peter's feet in the center, the prayer in Gethsemane on the left while the disciples fell asleep and the boy with the 5 loaves of bread on the right.
The button depicts a female figure with an olive branch and an anchor, with the anchor symbolizing hope.
The skirt hook shows a female figure with a staff. The staff is the symbol for the earthly pilgrimage.
On the back of the bracket are the initials GH, 1823.
The bead bag is in excellent condition.
