A chased silver purse clasp made by the Groningen silversmith Henricus Nicolaas Hubert, who worked from 1774 to 1816.

This silversmith became the superintendent of the orphanage in Groningen. From 1797 onward, he oversaw and was responsible for the orphans. As a Catholic, this privilege was reserved for Protestants until 1795, but from then on, it was also granted to Catholics.

Because the bracket was only marked with the master's mark, it was sold outside the city of Groningen in the Ommelanden.

The bracket bears the master's mark H and the initials AL B.

The front of the bag handle shows two birds on either side surrounded by floral and curly motifs.

On both sides, the bag handle has approximately 3 cm of clearance between the silver. (See the photos for this.)

The bracket is equipped with a sturdy supporting chain.

Weight: 197 grams. Dimensions: 11 x 17 cm.
