Groningen silver purse clasp with purse hook. This silver purse clasp is attributed to Gerardus Lucas Schuiten, who worked in Groningen from 1798 to 1811 and is marked with the GS mark.
The bag hook was made by Hayo van der Schoor from Winschoten. He worked from 1807 to 1811.
The purse handle is also marked with the crowned E (Étranger=foreign), the import and excise mark of the French Empire, used from 1809 to 1819, in present-day Belgium, the Netherlands, and other French-occupied territories. In addition, the purse handle and hook are marked with the crowned O (Dutch tax-free mark 1807).
The bag handle features a passionate (Biblical?) representation of, among other things, a flute player and a tambourine (?).
Weight: 186.6 grams. Dimensions: 18 x 20 cm.
