The tobacco box dates from ca. 1740-1760 and features an exquisitely carved scene of Jesus being brought before Herod.
In the golden age, the best mother-of-pearl artists worked with shells brought from the east by the VOC. Most mother-of-pearl artists worked in Amsterdam in the 18th century.
