Are you looking for an exclusive piece of Dutch tableware with a refined historical appeal?
This stunning antique silver serving slice (well-suited as a fish or cake server) is a beautiful example of high-quality craftsmanship from the early 19th century.
The server was made in 1843 in Amsterdam by the well-known master silversmith J. van Wijk (active between 1819 and 1846). The silver blade features an elegant, slightly tapered rectangular shape with wavy edges. The sides are adorned with beautifully pierced scrollwork, while the center is decorated with rich, finely hand-engraved floral ornamentation of flowers, leaves, and graceful acanthus tendrils. The server is fitted with an authentic, sleek faceted cream-colored bone handle that provides a wonderful contrast to the silver.
The object is fully and clearly marked with the official Dutch silver hallmarks:
  • Maker's mark: I.V above W+ in a square (J. van Wijk)
  • Fineness mark: Walking Lion with a '2' (for 2nd grade silver, .833)
  • Office mark: Minerva head with the assay office letter for Amsterdam
  • Date letter: I for the year 1843
Specifications:
  • Length: 285 mm (28.5 cm)
  • Weight: 97.0 grams (including handle)
  • Period: 1843 (Early Victorian / Biedermeier)
  • Origin: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
This unique cake server is in beautiful antique condition. An absolute asset for the serious collector of Amsterdam silver or as an eye-catcher on an elegantly set table during a chic dinner or high tea!
