Are you looking for a characterful and elegant piece of North Netherlandish antique silver?
This refined antique silver sugar scoop (also excellent for use as a tea scoop) is a beautiful example of craftsmanship from the late 19th century. The piece was crafted by the well-known silversmith Pieter Siebma, who was active in the Frisian town of Bergum and in Groningen.
The scoop excels in its detail: the deep, elegantly scalloped bowl features fine, hand-engraved scroll and braid motifs at the junction. The stem is beautifully twisted and transitions into a clean, fluted handle, chicly finished with a subtle acorn-shaped knob or a tapering ornament. The object is in excellent antique condition with two very clear, deeply struck hallmarks on the back.
Characteristics and hallmarks:
  • Product: Antique silver sugar scoop / tea scoop / small scoop
  • Maker's mark: PS3 in a rectangle (Pieter Siebma, active between 1877 and 1916)
  • Fineness mark: Silver "Sword" (Dutch fineness mark for small silver works, model used before 1905)
  • Details: Twisted stem with fluted handle, fine engraving at the bowl junction
  • Dimensions: Length of 111 mm
  • Weight: Heavy quality of 17.0 grams
An atmospheric and authentic piece of silver history. Perfect for adding extra cachet to your high-tea table, as an exclusive gift for a collector, or for expanding your own collection of antique Dutch small silver.
