Are you looking for a special piece of Dutch tableware silver with a beautiful history?
This elegant antique sugar sifter spoon is a fine example of silverware from the mid-19th century.
The spoon was made in Amsterdam in 1853 by the well-known silversmith Johannes Hendrikus Schouten (active between 1846 and 1869). The silver bowl has a striking, rectangular shape with scalloped edges and engraved corner motifs. The center and the raised edges feature fine fretwork in the form of stars, diamonds, and a central sunray or fan pattern.
The silver stem is slenderly curved and transitions into a silver handle in a typical 19th-century model. The handle is decorated with exquisite engraving of floral motifs, leaf scrolls, and fine trim edges.
The item is fully and clearly hallmarked with the official Dutch silver marks:

Maker's mark: Lying hammer above I H S in a square (J. H. Schouten, Amsterdam)
Fineness mark: Walking Lion with a '2' (for 2nd grade silver, .833)
Office mark: Minerva head with the A of Amsterdam
Date letter: T for the year 1853
Specifications:
Length: 160 mm (16.0 cm)
Weight: 33.1 grams (solid silver)
Period: 1853 (Biedermeier)
Origin: Amsterdam, the Netherlands
This atmospheric sugar sifter spoon is in beautiful antique condition. It is a lovely eye-catcher on a nicely set table during a dinner or high tea, and a fine addition for the enthusiast of Amsterdam silver.
