Silver sprinkling spoon with an openwork bowl, attributed to the silversmith Lolke Westervelt or Westerveld (Voet 503) from Joure. He obtained citizenship in Leeuwarden in 1762, in which year he also became a master. In 1764 he married Neeltje Regnery; she died in April 1770.
The remarkable thing is that Voet does not know any work by him; this explains the stylized version of the impression of the master's mark in the reference works, namely copied from the painted wooden guild board of Leeuwarden. Almost all master's marks are depicted there for decoration with a round contour, something they did not have in reality. Work by this master is therefore quite rare, he may have produced little and had other sources of income.
The spoon has a playing child as a crown and was used to sprinkle sugar, but could also be used to scoop up wet fruit.
The spreading spoon is marked with the master mark LW.
The tray has some dents. The silverware is intact.
Weight: 27.5 grams. Dimensions: 7 x 14.5 cm.
