This large, second-grade silver commemorative spoon was hallmarked in the year 1932 in Arnhem and, based on its style, period, and craftsmanship, can be attributed with great certainty to the well-known Silversmiths B.W. van Eldik & A.F. van der Scheer (Hollandia Zilversmeden) from Zutphen.
The spoon is notable for its substantial length of exactly 20 centimeters. The stem is crowned by a finely pierced and detailed historic sailing ship (three-masted) sailing over the waves with full sails.
The stem is executed in a sleek twisted and diamond-cut pattern, characteristic of artisanal silverware from the 1930s. The stem connects smoothly to the egg-shaped bowl via a stylized acanthus leaf motif with a subtle flower bud.

The reverse of the bowl and the stem contain a crisp and highly interesting set of Dutch hallmarks from the interwar period:
  • Dutch Lion (2): The official fineness mark in a hexagon for second-grade silver (.835).
  • Minerva head with the letter 'H': The assay office mark of Arnhem, where the spoon was officially hallmarked.
  • Date letter 'X': The exact year mark corresponding to the year 1932.
  • Maker's mark: A maker's mark consisting of a circle. Combined with the Minerva head of Arnhem, we can attribute this to: B.W. van Eldik & A.F. van der Scheer (Hollandia Zilversmeden, Zutphen)
