The handle is executed in a beautifully openwork and twisted scroll motif, characteristic of the late 19th-century Historicism style. The spoon is crowned by a finely cast double figure of a King and Queen in ceremonial attire. Both wear a crown; the king holds a scepter, and the queen holds an orb or fan. This type of spoon featuring a royal couple was frequently gifted in the 19th century for memorable weddings or as a symbolic wedding gift to wish for a long and prosperous marriage.

Condition report: The spoon is in beautiful, authentic condition with a deep patina. The silver support pin on the back of the bowl is currently coming slightly loose from the bowl. This is a common sign of age in intensively used commemorative spoons and can be easily reattached by a silversmith if desired.
