Silver apron clasp or belt buckle, made by the silversmith Cornelis Wendels from Middelburg. This silversmith was active between 1828 and 1849.

The clasp is made from a silver Bible clasp. On one side of the Bible clasp, the evangelist Matthew is depicted with an angelic figure next to him. On the other side, we see the evangelist John with an eagle. The central part features an image of the high priest Aaron.

The belt buckle is hallmarked with the maker's mark .w., year letter I for 1843, Minerva head, and second-grade assay mark.
