Cast silver shoe buckles from the 18th century. One of the buckles is hallmarked with the city hallmark of Middelburg and a master hallmark.
The master hallmark is a lock plate. This was used by an unknown silversmith between 1765 and 1790. (J. de Bree, 628). The buckle is also hallmarked with the date letter M for 1779 - 1781.
The buckles belong together, but the hearts on top of the buckles are slightly different. It is probably a composite set.
