Silver shoe buckle, Widow of Mathijs Broese, Amsterdam, 19th century

Large and heavy silver shoe buckle made by the widow of Mathijs Broese from Amsterdam. Active from 1817 to 1828.

Mathijs Broese, was a silversmith between 1774-1816. He mainly produced small silver and died in 1816. Afterwards his wife continued the workshop.

The buckle has been hallmarked with no fewer than 7 hallmarks: the master hallmark WeB, minerva head, 2nd grade hallmark and year letter Q for 1825.

The buckle is in excellent condition.
