Silver sauce or gravy spoon made by silversmith Cornelis Boon from Schoonhoven, active from 1923 to 1925.

Cornelis Boon was registered as an independent master craftsman from 1923 to 1925. Before that, in 1923, he also briefly collaborated under the name A.J. & C. Boon.

Cornelis Boon was not solely tied to Schoonhoven; during his career, he was also registered or active for shorter periods in Rotterdam and Rhoon.

Cornelis Boon and the wider Boon family were known in the region for their high-quality small silver items and serving utensils. This includes sugar spoons, meat forks, cake servers, and thus, sauce spoons. Because he produced in the 1920s and early 1930s, his work often shows the transition from traditional, richly decorated 19th-century forms to the sleeker, more geometric lines of Art Deco. This sauce spoon, with its sleek, smooth handle and modern-looking square bowl, is a beautiful, classic example of this.

The spoon is hallmarked with master's mark CB, Minerva head, second-grade silver mark, and year letter Y for 1858.

The year letter Y does not match the period from 1923 to 1925. Nevertheless, we are certain of his master's mark and attribute this spoon to the silversmith Boon.

The spoon is in good condition.

Weight: 60 grams. Dimensions: 6 x 17 cm.
