Silver milk jug made by Mappin & Webb Ltd of London, established in 1775.

The history of Mappin & Webb is the story of one of the most prestigious names in British silversmithing and jewelry. What began as a small craft workshop grew into a global luxury empire that has been supplying the British royal family for generations.

The company's roots lie in 1775, when Jonathan Mappin opened a small silver and cutlery workshop in Sheffield, the absolute center of the British steel and silver industry. He quickly registered his first official hallmark. The family expanded the business for generations under the name Mappin Brothers.

In 1860, John Mappin, one of the founder's great-grandchildren, decided to start his own business after a disagreement with his brothers. He opened an elegant shop in London. In 1862 he joined forces with his brother-in-law, the jeweler George Webb. This proved to be a golden combination.

Ultimately, in 1902, John Mappin bought out his brothers' struggling company (Mappin Brothers), reuniting the family traditions under the definitive name Mappin & Webb Ltd

The milk jug, in Empire style, is marked with the 1st assay mark, London city mark, year letter f for 1921, and the maker's mark Mn Wb.

The jug is in good condition.

The jug has a weighted base.

Weight: 283.6 grams. Dimensions: 6.5 x 11.5 x 14.5 cm.
