Silver Patriotic Pendant, Hendrik Hooft, 1787

Oval silver pendant from the time of the struggle between the Patriots and the Royalists.

The pendant bears the image of Hendrik Hooft, mayor of Amsterdam and leader of the Patriots.

On the back of the pendant the text is engraved: Consider here Father Hooft, whom noble orphans serve as a Christian Citizen and a faithful Regent, discover 1787.

The silversmith is unknown. The following text was found: We know virtually nothing about the makers of the badges. Advertisements in the Amsterdamsche Courant, such as those in 1747, are missing. This is not surprising. The same applies to the makers of the many cartoons, who also remained anonymous. That was safer. After all, these were dangerous times.

This is a museum pendant, badge or insignia in perfect condition.
