Silver pastry server, made by the Amsterdam silversmith Petrus Fransiscus van Maarseveen. He was active in Amsterdam in the second half of the 19th century (from 1868 to 1880) as a silversmith and specialist in serving utensils.

The Van Maarseveen family was a well-known Amsterdam dynasty of silversmiths. From the 18th century onwards, they were specifically known as excellent spoon makers, craftsmen who focused entirely on forging spoons, forks, and sugar tongs.

This is an antique silver petit four server (or pastry server). This type of server was specifically designed in the 19th century for elegantly serving small pastries, petit fours, or patties at the table.

The blade features a refined, finely engraved floral wreath, with an empty cartouche (the oval area) in the center. This area was originally intended for engraving a family crest or initials. The handle gracefully curves upwards and transitions into a leaf-shaped base (the transition to the bowl), adorned with subtle engraved lines that perfectly match the Biedermeier style of around 1882.

The server is marked with the second-grade hallmark, Minerva head, year letter x for 1882, and maker's mark M in a cross.

The pastry server is in good condition.

Weight: 100.5 grams. Dimensions: 7.5 x 26 cm.
