Are you looking for an exclusive piece of historic Dutch table silver for your collection or a beautifully set table?
This magnificent antique silver pastry server (fruit server) is a rare example of early Biedermeier craftsmanship from the capital. Crafted in 1846 by the respected Amsterdam master silversmith J. Mulder.

Silversmith J. Mulder was active in Amsterdam between 1845 and 1862. His workshop was known in silversmith records for supplying high-quality small and large silver pieces for the wealthy Amsterdam bourgeoisie. His works are characterized by a clean, solid base combined with very intricate and elegant handwork. Mulder's maker's mark, a recognizable fish above the letters J M,  is a sought-after signature today among lovers of Dutch nineteenth-century silver. This specific object dates from 1846, the very beginning of his independent mastership, which gives this server extra historical significance.
The large, elegantly shaped silver scoop features a lavish openwork floral and leaf motif (ajour work). This carefully executed engraving and sawing work was typical of luxury Amsterdam silver production from the first half of the 19th century. The scoop connects to a finely decorated silver mid-piece that transitions into a smooth, stylish bone handle with a soft, creamy, authentic appearance.
This silver pastry server features Dutch hallmarks on the transition to the scoop, guaranteeing its authenticity and historical value:
  • Maker's Mark: Fish above J M in a square (J. Mulder, Amsterdam).
  • Fineness Mark: Lion Passant with a 2 (Dutch second standard silver, .833).
  • Assay Office Mark: Minerva head with the letter A, which stands for the assay office in Amsterdam.
  • Date Letter: The letter M which corresponds exactly to the year 1846.
