Silver pastry or berry scoop made by the silversmith Gerrit Cornelis de Vooijs from Rotterdam. Active from 1896 to 1913.

Although the De Vooijs family was originally a very well-known silversmith family from Gouda (where they had been active since 1803), family members and associates also worked in surrounding cities such as Rotterdam.

In the early 20th century, serving pâtés and savory pies (such as game pie) was an important part of the elegant bourgeois dinner table. For this purpose, silversmiths designed special scoops with a broad bowl and often an upturned rim.

The scoop has a twisted handle and is beautifully decorated in the early 20th-century Dutch Art Nouveau/Biedermeier style with a finely engraved floral motif (sunflower/daisy) on both the bowl and the handle.

The scoop is hallmarked with the maker's mark V2, second fineness mark, Minerva head, and year letter x for 1907.

The scoop is in excellent condition.

Weight: 24.8 grams. Dimensions: 4.5 x 14 cm.
