Silver mother-of-pearl box, O. Joling / Midwolda, 19th century

Silver box made up of mother of pearl sides, top and bottom.

An image of the birth of Jesus with Joseph and Mary is cut out on the top.

The bottom has a cut-out flower/plant representation.

The box is hallmarked with the sword and the master mark OI from OR Joling from Midwolda. He worked from 1812 to 1818.

The mother of pearl for these boxes was brought in by VOC ships from the far east.
