- Beautifully openwork: The bowl is meticulously hand-sawed in an openwork symmetrical pattern of elegant scrollwork motifs, C-volutes, and floral curls.
- Elegant undulating rim: The raised, gently scalloped rim of the bowl beautifully catches the light and ensures that the fruit remains perfectly on the spoon.
- Classic smooth handle: The sleek handle tapers into a subtly curved, egg-shaped end (right-angled model), keeping all visual attention on the richly decorated bowl.
- Tasteful serving: The spoon was specifically designed for serving 'wet' or washed fruit, such as fresh strawberries, raspberries, cherries, or preserved fruit in syrup.
- Clever design: Thanks to the large, openwork openings in the bowl, excess juice or water drains away immediately when serving. This ensures you serve only the fruit, without the rest of the dessert or pastry becoming soggy.
- Royal Warrant Holder: As early as 1841, founder Johannes Mattheus van Kempen received the 'Royal Warrant Holder' designation. Under the leadership of his sons, the factory in Voorschoten grew into an innovative silver powerhouse known for its unparalleled quality.
- Historical value: This specific object dates from 1878. As fruit serving spoons were considered true status symbols on the dining table at the time, the silversmith could express all his creativity and technical perfection in them.
- The maker's mark: Hallmarked with the recognizable recumbent moon with side points above V K in a square, the official maker's mark used in Voorschoten at the time.
