Silver miniature of a birdcage with a bird, made by the silversmith A.F. Westerwaal from Amsterdam. He was active from 1900-1921.

Westerwaal was known for his detailed silver dollhouse items and miniatures of everyday objects, vehicles, and furniture (such as high chairs, dog carts, carriages, and birdcages).

This is a cylindrical birdcage with bars and finely woven silver filigree. Inside the cage, a small silver bird (like a canary or finch) is mounted on a feeder or perched on a swing.

At the top, there is a large, twisted silver handle (carrying eye), with which the cage could symbolically be hung in an 18th-century dollhouse or on a stand.

This model combines casting and filigree techniques (wirework) in which Westerwaal and other masters of that period excelled to imitate the texture of a real wicker or metal cage.

The miniature is marked with the maker's mark A3W and the sword for at least 2nd grade silver.

The miniature is in good condition.

Weight: 9 grams. Dimensions: 1.5 x 3.5 cm.
