This antique silver miniature of a stage mill (tower mill) is a splendid addition to your collection. As beautifully shown in the photo, the object stands out due to its finely profiled stage (gallery), the detailed windows in the body, and the characteristic silver flag at the top of the cap. The miniature is equipped with four openwork, rotatable sails and rests on a round silver base. The mill is in excellent condition.
The maker of this refined miniature is the well-known gold and silversmith Jan van Dijk from Hoorn. He worked in this historic West Frisian port city from 1901 to 1939. Van Dijk was nationally renowned at the time for his high-quality and finely detailed miniatures, of which this delicate mill is a beautifully preserved example.
The object is clearly marked with the official Dutch quality hallmarks:
  • Maker's mark: JvDH (Jan van Dijk, Hoorn)
  • Fineness and assay mark: Marked with the antique Dutch 'Zwaardje' (Sword), the official hallmark for small silver objects that guarantees the legal silver content.
