Are you looking for an exceptionally beautiful and detailed piece of Dutch small silver?
This antique silver miniature of a smock mill (bovenkruier) is a beautiful collector's item. As seen in the photo, the mill is very skillfully constructed with an open-worked platform (gallery), an open door at the bottom, and vertical engravings mimicking wooden cladding. The whole rests on a sturdy, octagonal silver base and is in excellent condition.

The maker of this refined mill miniature is the gold and silversmith Bartholomeus Verhoogt from Hoorn. He was active in this historic West Frisian port city from 1921 to 1949. Verhoogt was known for his high-quality small silver and miniatures, of which this solidly crafted object (weighing no less than 29.2 grams) is a splendid example.
The miniature mill is clearly hallmarked with the official Dutch silver marks:
  • Maker's Mark: BXV12 (B. Verhoogt, Hoorn)
  • Finenss and Assay Office Mark: Hallmarked with the Dutch 'Zwaardje' (small sword) for small silver objects, guaranteeing the legal silver fineness.
