Are you a connoisseur of historical Dutch small silver and are you looking for a masterpiece with an exceptionally interesting hallmark story?
This magnificent antique silver miniature of a skilled blacksmith at his anvil is a rare and perfectly documented masterpiece from 1906.
The object was made by the famous West Frisian silversmith Jan Postmus from Hoorn (active between 1899 and 1955).

The scene is placed on a sleek, rectangular base plate with beveled corners and a finely crafted zigzag decorative edge. The details are wonderfully tactile: the blacksmith wears historical clothing with a characteristic cap and proudly holds a large forging hammer in his right hand, ready to work the glowing iron on the detailed anvil.

For the expert, this collector's item is an absolute dream due to the exceptionally sharp and complete hallmarks on both the top and bottom:
  • Top (Official hallmarks from 1906): Featuring the master's mark J2P (Jan Postmus), the Minerva head, the walking lion II (.835 silver) and the elegant year letter w which precisely dates the piece to the year 1906.
  • Bottom (Rare Pseudo Hallmarks): The bottom of the plate features four sharp fantasy hallmarks, including the crowned coat of arms of Amsterdam (with the three crosses) and a crowned letter 'B'. Postmus intentionally applied these in the early 20th century to give the object the allure and status of rare 17th-century guild silver.
