Silver miniature mill cup, Silver Factory Haarlem, 20th century
Silver miniature of a mill cup. A copy of a 17th century example. At that time, mill cups were used to play drinking games . The drinker had to blow to make the sails of the mill turn. The player then had to quickly empty the cup before the sails stopped turning. If this did not work, the blower had to drink several cups empty as a punishment.
The master seal almost resembles the city seal of Haarlem, a sword flanked by two stars under a cross, here with an elongated H for Zilverfabriek Haarlem bv/Louis Premselaar bv, registered in the cities of Haarlem, Amsterdam and Aerdenhout, active from 1975 to the present.
Further marked with the sword for 2nd grade silver.
The miniature consists of two parts. The cup with pin on which the mill rests.
