Silver miniature of a mill (smock mill), made by the silversmith J. Verhoogt from Hoorn. Active from 1896 to 1936.

Jan (Johannes) Verhoogt started as a knife sharpener, later specializing entirely in luxurious silver miniatures. In the antique world, he became globally renowned as the specialist in windmills and sailing ships.

The four sails are openwork. The mill features a delicate silver flag on top of the cap. The cap has a functional tailpole at the back, which in a real mill would be used to turn the cap into the wind.

The mill is hallmarked with the second fineness mark, year letter T for 1903. Additionally, the Minerva head P of Alkmaar and the master's mark JV hammer are struck.

The miniature is in perfect condition.

Weight: 50.2 grams. Dimensions: 3.8 x 3.8 x 10 cm.
