This beautiful antique silver miniature of a man (or boy) flying a kite is a unique piece of small silver from the early twentieth century.
This lively object was handcrafted in 1916 by the renowned silversmith Jan Postmus from Hoorn (active between 1899 and 1955).

The figurine stands on a rectangular base plate with beveled corners and a finely worked zigzag decorative edge. The scene is designed with a great sense of dynamism: the kite flyer holds the twisted silver kite string with one hand, which is connected to a diamond-shaped kite standing stably in the imaginary wind.

What makes this piece extra attractive for collectors is the razor-sharp and complete set of official Dutch silver hallmarks on the top of the base plate:
  • Walking Lion II: The official hallmark for second-grade silver (.835).
  • Minerva head: The assay mark for the office designation.
  • Year letter G: This specific typeface precisely dates the miniature to the war year 1916.
  • Maker's mark J2P: The official factory stamp of Jan Postmus, struck on the underside of the base plate.
