Large silver miniature of a man with a wheelbarrow, made by Jan Postmus. Jan Postmus was an active silversmith between 1899 and 1955. He was registered in Amsterdam, Alphen aan de Rijn and Hoorn. He became particularly famous for his openwork baskets (such as the well-known 'peacock baskets') and high-quality silver miniatures

It is a very detailed, elaborate miniature.

The miniature shows a man pushing a richly decorated wheelbarrow (with scrollwork and carving), on which a wooden barrel or cask rests. The openwork front wheel is a beautiful technical detail.

The miniature is hallmarked with the maker's mark J2P, second fineness mark, and year letter y for 1908.

An important characteristic of Postmus is that, in addition to the legal Dutch hallmarks (such as the sword for the silver content), he often struck historical pseudo-marks. He did this to give his miniatures the appearance of antique 18th-century silver. This miniature also features pseudo-marks.

The miniature is in excellent condition.

Weight: 44.1 grams. Dimensions: 2.5 x 4 x 9.5 cm.
