Very rare 18th-century silver miniature rocking horse with rider made by the silversmith Jan Koningh from Enkhuizen. Active mid-18th century.
For the collector of exceptional antique silver, we offer a unique and museum-quality object: a refined silver miniature rocking horse with a rider.
The silversmith Jan Koningh from Enkhuizen was active in the first half of the 18th century, a period in which this city still played an important role in North Holland's silver production. Although he is not among the most famous names from, for example, Amsterdam, his work is highly appreciated by connoisseurs for its refinement and rarity.
Relatively little is documented about Koningh himself, which is not uncommon for regional silversmiths of that era. What we do know is that he was registered as a master with the guild and worked according to Enkhuizen's strict assay rules. His master's mark IK is known and is occasionally found on small, finely crafted objects.
This special piece bears the year letter G, the city mark of Enkhuizen, and the master's mark IK, which unequivocally confirms its authenticity and provenance. It is an extremely rare object within the Dutch silver tradition, exhibiting a high degree of detail and craftsmanship typical of the 18th century.
The combination of playfulness and artisanal perfection makes this miniature a true work of art. Such pieces are usually found only in museum collections and rarely come onto the market.
