This rare antique silver miniature of a farmer leading his cow on a rope is a beautiful and tangible piece of Dutch history.
The object was handcrafted in 1919 by the renowned silversmith Jan Postmus from Hoorn (active between 1899 and 1955).

The scene is placed on a sleek base plate with a fine zigzag decorative edge. The details are beautifully preserved: from the characteristic posture of the farmer with the rolled-up rope in his hand to the detailed fur structure on the back of the cow.
What makes this collector's item extra valuable is the exceptionally sharp and complete set of Dutch silver hallmarks on the base plate:
  • Walking Lion II: The official hallmark for 2nd grade silver (.835).
  • Minerva head: The assay stamp for the office designation.
  • Year letter J: This specific font dates the miniature exactly to the year 1919.
  • Master's mark J2P: The official stamp of Jan Postmus, struck on the underside of the base plate.
