Silver miniature made by the silversmith R. Scheltens from Groningen. He was active from 1858 to 1889.

The miniature depicts the Three Kings (Wise Men from the East) on a lobed base with an engraved cobblestone pattern. The figures wear crowns on their heads.

In the center is a twisted mast to which a large, eight-pointed star (the Star of Bethlehem) is attached. With this type of mechanical miniature, one could originally pull a string or chain to make the star rotate.

The miniature is marked with the master's mark RS2 and the tax mark dolphin.

The miniature is also provided with pseudo marks. This was done to make a 19th-century silver miniature appear to be 18th-century. There was a high demand for 18th-century Dutch silver, especially from England. Pseudo marks were used to meet this demand.

In good condition.

Weight: 42.9 grams. Dimensions: 5 x 9 cm.
