18th Century knife with a silver handle. The handle is crowned with a dog (sign of loyalty).
The knife handle was made by silversmith Dirk Hoep from Hoorn. He was active from 1768 to 1811.
The handle features two biblical images: David playing his harp and Elijah being fed by ravens.
The handle is marked with the master mark DH, year letter I for 1769 and the city mark of Hoorn.
This knife is depicted on page 184, image 554 (right) in the book Nederlands klein zilver by BWG Wttewaall,
The knife has a length of: 16 cm and a weight of: 24.6 grams.
