Silver knife handle with steel blade, D. Hoep, Hoorn, 1769

^18th Century knife with a silver handle. The handle is crowned with a dog (sign of loyalty).

The knife handle was made by silversmith Dirk Hoep from Hoorn. He was active from 1768 to 1811.

The handle features two biblical images: David playing his harp and Elijah being fed by ravens.

The handle is marked with the master mark DH, year letter I for 1769 and the city mark of Hoorn.
