18th- century silver knife handle with a steel blade. Crowned with a dog as a sign of loyalty. Attributed to the master blacksmith Michiel Boldijn, who worked in Amsterdam from 1721 to 1770. The Boldijn family also called themselves Bolt and Bolten.

The knife handle is hallmarked with the Amsterdam city hallmark and bears the heart with two arrows as the maker's mark. It is also hallmarked with the date letter O for 1748.

The silver knife handle has a simple band decoration of leaves.

The steel blade is original and belongs to the knife handle. The blade is hallmarked with the Gouda hallmark (a bird above a star). The star is the mark of the Gouda knife makers, based on the Gouda coat of arms and motto. The last knife maker in Gouda closed in 1752.

Knife length: 16.5 cm. Weight: 27.5 grams.
