Silver marrow drill or marrow spoon. Made by the Amsterdam silversmith Jan Diederik Pont. He worked from 1729 to 1767.

Jan Diederik Pont was a prolific tableware and serving maker. From 1713 to 1719, he was an apprentice to the silversmith Johan Gräfenstein in Bremen.

The marrow borer consists of a short, flat handle with an oval socket at each end. One socket is somewhat wider and blunt, while the other is quite narrow and tapers to a point.

Marked on the back of the stem with the master's mark OP, the city mark of Amsterdam and the date letter s for 1752.

In the past, a marrow drill was used to extract the marrow from boiled bones. This was considered a delicacy.

The marrow borer is in good condition.

Weight: 37.9 grams. Dimensions: 20.5 x 1.4 cm.
