Silver marrow drill or marrow spoon. Attributed to Cornelis Blaaubeen from Middelburg. Active from 1733 to 1747.
The marrow borer consists of a short, flat handle with an oval bowl at both ends. One bowl is somewhat wider and more blunt, while the other is quite narrow and tapers to a point. Marked on the back of the handle with master mark CB and a later tax mark (1859)
In the past, a marrow drill was used to extract marrow from boiled bones. This was considered a delicacy.
