18th-century wax jack with a seal stamp. Made by the silversmith Isaac du Booij from Middelburg. Active from 1775. Isaac du Booij is also written as Isaac du Boy or Isaac du Bois.

Isaac du Bois appears to have started as a silversmith in 1775 and changed professions before 1797. He was likely trained by and collaborated with his future son-in-law, the German watchmaker Johan Frederik Wischner. Isaac was only five years older than Johan Frederik Wischner.

The transition from silversmith to watchmaker is very plausible;

The initials PR on the seal are mirrored. The meaning of a bird with a twig in its beak is a symbol of peace, hope, and new life, originating from the biblical story of Noah and the flood. The dove brought an olive branch back to the ark, signifying that the waters had receded and new life was possible.

The case features an engraving with scroll motifs.

The case bears a master mark of a surgical syringe.

In good condition.

Weight: 24.3 grams. Length: 9 cm.
