Silver history medal of the death of Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp, 1653
A cast and driven silver medal with high relief made to commemorate the death of Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp. This medal was made by Wouter Muller.
The front features a bust of Tromp with the insignia of the French order of Saint Michael with ship's gear and trophies on both sides, including a banderole with the text: 'My deer and hand were for the land'.
On the other side a naval battle with a sinking English warship in the foreground; caption: 'Why does Muller make Tromp live through the art of gold and silver: because he drove out D'Iser for a century through martial virtue; obyt den 10: aug: 1653'.
