Silver men's chatelaine or pocket watch chain made by an unknown silversmith from Zwolle in 1847.
The chatelaine is made up of the 3 parts of a Bible lock: clamp, attachment and clamp arm. On all 3 is a Biblical image, namely: The high priest, Matthew with the angel and Mark with the lion. These are connected by means of 4 jasseron chains to a signet or cachet. (see also the blog elsewhere on this website)
The Bible lock features the date letter N for 1847 and the Minerva head G for Zwolle.
The cachet was added later and marked with master hallmark CBZ+ by C. Bos en Zoon BV from Amsterdam and Z11 for 2nd grade silver.
