Are you looking for an extremely rare and elegant piece of historical silverware? This magnificent antique silver ginger spoon (ginger cutlery) breathes the pure refinement of 19th-century Schoonhoven silversmithing.
Ginger spoons from this period are highly sought-after collector's items due to their specific design and delicate openwork.
The spoon was handcrafted in 1861 and is in excellent, authentic condition. The bowl features a beautiful, geometrically openwork pattern (ajour work with holes and a star shape), which was originally intended to drain the syrup from candied ginger pieces. Both the bowl and the elegantly curved handle are richly decorated with refined, handmade engravings of floral motifs and graceful scrolls. This makes it a characteristic example of the romantic Dutch Biedermeier style.
This high-quality silver scoop carries a special historical story. It was made in the renowned workshop of Wed. Hendrik van der Ree, at that time led by the female silversmith Andrientje Uittenbogert (active between 1853 and 1888). Pieces from her hand are known for their sublime level of detail and excellent quality. A beautifully preserved piece of Schoonhoven history that is guaranteed to be an eye-catcher.

The ginger spoon is clearly and fully marked with the official historical Dutch silver hallmarks from the 19th century:
  • Running Lion (2): The legal hallmark for 2nd grade Dutch silver (.833).
  • Minerva head with the letter M: The official office mark of the assay office in Schoonhoven.
  • Master's mark WR above 103 in a square: The registered master's mark of Wed. H. van der Ree.
  • Year letter h: Guarantees the exact year of production 1861.
Specifications of the object:
